Rajasthan Premier League: History, Teams, Winners, Format and Latest Season

 

The Rajasthan Premier League (RPL) is a state-level T20 cricket competition organised by the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA). The tournament was introduced to provide Rajasthan-based cricketers with a competitive franchise cricket platform while giving fans across the state a local T20 league to follow. The first season was held in 2023 with six city-based teams.

What Is the Rajasthan Premier League?

The Rajasthan Premier League is a men's Twenty20 tournament featuring franchise teams representing different cities and regions of Rajasthan. The competition was created as part of the wider growth of domestic franchise-based T20 cricket in India.

The RPL provides opportunities for emerging Rajasthan players to share the stage with established domestic cricketers. The league is administered by the Rajasthan Cricket Association and was initially planned as a multi-season competition.

Rajasthan Premier League History

The inaugural Rajasthan Premier League season took place in August and September 2023. Six teams participated in the competition, with matches played in Jaipur and Jodhpur.

Jaipur Indians emerged as the first RPL champions after defeating Jodhpur Sunrisers by five wickets in the final at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. Jodhpur Sunrisers posted 168 runs, before Jaipur Indians successfully chased the target with one ball remaining. Shubham Garhwal was named Player of the Series.

The league did not have a 2024 season. The Rajasthan Cricket Association's ad hoc committee stated at the time that it did not have the authority to organise the tournament.

There were also discussions about bringing the competition back in 2025, but a season was not held. As of September 2026, there is no confirmed new RPL season schedule publicly listed by the RCA.

Rajasthan Premier League Format

The original RPL format was designed around six teams playing a round-robin league stage. Each franchise would compete against the other teams before the leading sides progressed to the playoff stage.

According to the Rajasthan Cricket Association's tender documents, the competition was planned to culminate in playoff matches that would determine the winner, runner-up and third-placed team.

Latest Rajasthan Premier League Season

The 2023 edition remains the latest completed Rajasthan Premier League season. There was no tournament in 2024 or 2025, while a confirmed 2026 RPL schedule has not been announced as of September 2026.

The future of the competition will depend on decisions by the Rajasthan Cricket Association and the organisation of the state's domestic cricket calendar. If the RPL returns, it could once again provide a platform for emerging Rajasthan cricketers to gain valuable T20 experience.
