Asia Cup 2025: BCCI Lodges Complaint With ICC Against Haris Rauf, Sahibzada Farhan Over ‘Provocative Gestures’

The Asia Cup 2025 has been packed with thrilling cricket, but it has also seen off-field tensions take center stage. In a dramatic turn of events, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially filed a complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) against Pakistani players Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan for making allegedly provocative gestures during the high-stakes clash between India and Pakistan.

According to the BCCI, Haris Rauf made a controversial “six-zero” hand gesture after dismissing an Indian batter — widely interpreted as a political reference. In a separate incident, Sahibzada Farhan celebrated a half-century with a gun-firing gesture using his bat, which was deemed inappropriate for an international platform watched by millions.

These actions have been labelled by the BCCI as violating the ICC’s Code of Conduct, particularly the section that restricts political, racial, and religious gestures on the field. The Indian boaraaad argues that such behavior goes beyond acceptable celebrations and risks inflaming tensions between nations with an already delicate cricketing relationship.

The ICC has acknowledged receipt of the complaint and has scheduled a disciplinary hearing. The outcome could include fines, reprimands, or even short-term suspensions, depending on the severity of the violations and the players’ explanations.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has responded by filing a counter-complaint against India’s Suryakumar Yadav, accusing him of making a politically charged statement after India’s win, where he paid tribute to victims of a terror attack and the Indian armed forces.

With cricket fans worldwide watching closely, the focus has now shifted from the pitch to the boardroom. This controversy highlights how on-field actions can quickly spiral into diplomatic debates in the world of international cricket.

As the ICC prepares to rule on both complaints, the Asia Cup has become more than just a tournament—it’s now a test of sportsmanship, player conduct, and how far celebrations can go before they cross the line.
